DESIGN WORKSHOP

Design Workshop

The best ideas are created when people communicate and collaborate. That's why we created the Co-lab Architecture Design Workshop.

We bring together architects and designers to collaborate and create unique design solutions in response to your architecture brief.

Traditionally, architects design in isolation, missing the opportunity to draw from and expand on the experience and imagination of others.

Ultimately, a traditional approach results in design ideas that are limited by one architect's experience and design sensibility.

Our architecture workshop process is quite unique, in fact it's one of a kind. The design solutions are different for every brief, because the architects in the workshop design in response to the client's brief and pool their talent.

If you'd like to know more, we've included a step by step process of how it works below. You can also look through some workshop project examples.

I don’t know what I was expecting, but this is brilliant. We are very impressed with the outcome and the number of creative solutions responding directly to our brief.

THE PROCESS

STEP 1. THE BRIEF

We provide you a design brief which you complete with your family. This allows us to understand the current property site and existing building as well as your motivations, needs, priorities, likes and dislikes. We ask you to compile images and ideas in an online diary and source existing plans.

Timing: Week 1-2

STEP 2. BRIEF REVIEW

We meet with you at your property to review your brief and clarify any information you have provided. We also take the opportunity to review the proposed site.

Timing: Week 3

STEP 3. DESIGN WORKSHOP

We run the workshop with five architects with relevant experience. After the workshop we further develop relevant architecture schemes with images and design inspiration.

Timing: Week 4-5

STEP 4. PRESENTATION

We present the architecture schemes to you. We leave behind a design book enclosing the schemes so you can easily reference design ideas and continue discussion at home.

Timing: Week 5

STEP 5. FINAL CONCEPT DESIGN

You decide on the architecture concept design scheme, or elements from various schemes that you like most. We create one final concept design scheme to reflect your feedback. This is provided as a soft copy pdf format.

Timing: Week 6

STEP 6. NEXT STEPS

At the end of this process it's up to you what happens next. You may decide to  continue working with Co-lab through Design Development or to take the concepts we've developed to a draftsperson or Design & Build company to draft working drawings.

Architects think outside the box and we knew thinking like that would be a great investment. Co-lab allowed us (with a very limited build budget) to get ideas from not just one but several architects without having to pay for an entire architecture package. Genius!”
